The final painting in this collection of XII pieces. They have been such fun to make, imagining diving into the depths of a rock pool. Inspired by holidays both in Dorset and Crete, I just absolutely love to be beside the sea and would love to live beside the ocean. I find it so inspiring, I think the vastness of the rawness of nature really grabs me. The repetition of the tides and waves in continuum are both awe inspiring and comforting.

All the joys of a late Spring day encapsulated in this painting. I absolutely love May, it is my favourite month of the year. I find I am very influenced by the seasons in my work, so this was in response to the cow parsley flowering on the lanes and in the hedgerows around the farm where we live.

Exploring horizons for me, runs deep. I find the horizon line symbolic of of a lid, to keep a lid on my emotions. As children, my sister and I used to love standing at the shoreline feeling the sand eroded from under our feet with each passing wave. Here I am connecting with the detail of the tiny gems under the earth at our feet which each grain of sand represents.

I sat and sketched the beach at Winterton on Sea in the summer of 2020, when the weather was baking hot and we had been allowed out of lockdown and able to travel from our homes. The Dunes Cafe was a long standing land mark at the beach and the source of many a cooling ice cream or warming cup of tea in the Autumn and Winter.

Later that year a grand winter storm threatened its existence and so it was removed.

I felt compelled to later paint this image when once again the fragile East Coast was threatened once again by erosion.

A mixed media piece for the band KYANOS and used as the album cover for their Isolation Tape produced during Covid 19 Lockdown 1. All proceeds were sent towards providing PPE for NHS workers.

My largest painting to date, and exciting to paint. The Words & Paint series is about expressing deep feelings. I wanted to portray the calm that can be felt if allowing yourself the space to breathe even if feeling a bit out of your depth. Words are embedded into the painting, not discernible in the finished piece, they are there none the less.

Following a trip to the Suffolk coastline where the river Deben was flowing into the North Sea when the tide was out. The mixture of river and sea was quite mesmerising.

A walk along the coast line and river Deben at Old Felixstowe was so fascinating. The River was flowing at a fast pace into the sea whilst the tide was out. The mixture between the two forces of nature was fascinating.

I love to be beside the water, it has strong physiological benefits in built into our DNA. This particular day at the beach was extraordinary as the river swollen with rain flowed into the sea that was forcing it’s way in the opposite direction.

Over the Fields and far away. Hope is on the horizon, snow is on the ground, hedgerows golden in the sun light with texture and twisted branches, wild and natural. That is the essence of this painting.

Painted to continue my exploration into depth of field and dark, stormy skies. I have enjoyed stripping back the elements within a piece of work following the ethos of less being more. With brighter things to come being just in reach on the horizon.

Framed in a tight hand painted box frame to emphasise simplicity, the frame sets off the work brilliantly.

Painted following a lovely memorable day at Norfolks wonderful Holkham Bay with my sister. I have incorporated dried grasses into the paint to create texture in the foreground. I wanted to evoke the expansiveness of this beautiful location.

The first painting in my Aldebergh Series inspired by all the fishing detritus on the beach in Aldeburgh, Suffolk. The work is about the threads that tie us to the land, our families, the tangled webs we weave and the umbilical cord connecting us with our beginnings.

This painting was selected by the IEA and The Gallery, Holt, Norfolk into the IEA Open Exhibition 2021.
